Program Description

You already know how to build an estimate. This program shows you where AI can take hours out of it, and where your judgment still has to carry the number.

Built for experienced preconstruction professionals, the program follows the estimating workflow from bid documents to bid day. You will use AI to pull requirements and risks out of specs and contracts, speed up quantity takeoff, level subcontractor bids, and draft scopes and proposals. Every exercise ends with checking the output, because a fast answer that misses one qualifier can cost a job.

The program is tool-agnostic: you work with the AI tools your company already licenses, alongside demonstrations of construction-specific platforms. In a hands-on live session at MSOE you build an AI agent for one of your own recurring tasks, then validate it on your own time and present it to peers from other firms at a collaborative capstone showcase.

Participants who complete the program earn a professional certificate and a skill-specific digital badge for their CV and LinkedIn profile.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the program, you will be able to:

  1. Explain how AI tools work and where they fit in preconstruction, separating tasks AI does reliably (extraction, counting, comparison, first drafts) from those that need estimator judgment (pricing, productivity, risk allocation)
  2. Build and give appropriate access to an AI agent that performs a recurring preconstruction task, and present it to peers
  3. Use AI within company policy, protecting client, owner and bid data and staying accountable for the final number
  4. Validate AI-generated document reviews, quantities and bid comparisons with a repeatable quality-control check
  5. Apply the CRAFT framework and project context to get usable results from general-purpose and construction-specific AI tools
